Covid-19 Response

Pine Valley Church of Christ

Health and Safety Guidelines and Procedures

Love Does No Harm

May 23, 2020

To make sure that our worship gatherings remain safe and prevent the transmission of the Covid-19 virus, we have implemented the following safety procedures. All are based on CDC guidelines for Communities of Faith (which you can view at https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/php/faith-based.html) and on the biblical principle that “love does no harm to a neighbor” (Romans 13:10).

Guidelines and Procedures

  1. The building will be sanitized every week.
  1. Restrooms will be sanitized between services (if we have more than one per Sunday).
  1. We ask that all attendees to wear cloth face coverings while entering and leaving the building as well as when you are interacting with others and cannot remain at least 6 feet apart. The CDC recommends that children under the age of 2 or people who have breathing problems not wear them. Cloth face coverings are meant to protect other people in case the wearer is unknowingly infected but does not have symptoms. If you do not have a cloth face covering one will be provided for you. Once you are seated for worship you are free to remove your face covering if you so desire.
  1. Please enter and leave through the appropriate door for your service to reduce the possibility of cross contamination.
  1. Greeters will wear a cloth face covering and gloves.
  1. We ask all attendees to sanitize their hands as they enter the building. Hand sanitizer will be provided by the greeters.
  1. Pre-packaged communion kits will be furnished by the greeters as you enter the building. Once used, please place the cup in the cup holders in the back of the pew in front of you. These will be collected later.
  1. There will be no passing of trays. A box will be placed in the foyer in which you can place your contributions.
  1. We ask all to maintain social distancing.
    1. We love each other and love to hug each other. During this pandemic, however, the loving thing to do is to refrain from any physical contact.
    2. In the auditorium, every other pew will be taped off. In the fellowship hall, chairs will be placed at a safe distance from each other. Family units may sit together but please maintain a 6-foot distance between your family and others.
  1. While we love to sing, we will continue to sing a reduced number of songs. According to the CDC, singing may promote the spread of Covid-19 through the emission of aerosols.
  1. We will shorten services to 45 minutes to reduce the potential for exposure.
  1. We ask that you try to limit the number of people in the restrooms at one time to 2 adults. Please wash your hands thoroughly before leaving the restroom.
  1. The water fountain will be turned off.
  1. We will not have any gatherings in which food is served until it is deemed safe.
  1. We will track attendance at each gathering. If someone does become infected, we will inform all others who were in attendance.
  1. As it is difficult to socially distance children, we will not be offering any classes at this time.
  1. All printed materials, including song books and bibles, will be removed to prevent the spread of infection. All songs and scriptures will be projected on the screen. You are welcome to bring your own Bible.
  1. We will continue to send the bulletin by email. Copies will not be available at the building.
