Thomas was born and raised in Moundville, Alabama. He was baptized at the age of 12 at the Moundville Church of Christ. Thomas's parents were in their late 40's when he was born and God had a plan to allow him to be very involved in their late lives.

At the age of 15, Thomas sold Christmas cards in July and August to win a tape recorder. Over the next 40 years, Sales and Numbers was Thomas' chosen profession. In the late 1990's he owned a successful insurance agency. After moving to Wilmington he was employed seasonally preparing taxes for H&R Block and is currently working in the Auto Parts industry.

He and his wife Judy moved to Wilmington in 2016 to help with young grandchildren, and in 2018 he was asked to serve as church treasurer for Pine Valley.

Thomas and Judy have 3 adult children, as well as grandchildren and a great grand son in Wedowee, Alabama.
